// UK’s
Largest City Academy reveals new designs
The Thomas Deacon Academy is to become one of the UK’s
flagship educational establishments when it opens its doors
to new students in September 2007. The world-class facility,
designed by architects Foster & Partners, will be an independent
school specialising in science and maths. The innovative scheme,
which will cost around £45m, is the biggest school investment
in the country and the only Academy in the UK incorporating
three schools into one.
The new Academy has commissioned Cambridge-based Adrenaline
Creative to create a new identity to be used in a wide range
of branded materials from school blazer badges and signage
through to brochures and a new website. The logo, to be unveiled
in November, represents the aspirational vision behind the
Academy which will provide first class free education to 2,200
students of all abilities. The new marque was designed in
consultation with sponsors Perkins Engines Company, architects
Foster & Partner and The Deacon’s School Trust,
teaching staff and trustees.
Allan Arnott, Perkins’ Operations Director and one
of the sponsor directors on the Academy board, said he was
excited by the new visual identity.
“The new logo is simple yet it is fresh, dynamic and
will be inspirational to all our students. It represents a
modern, forward looking educational establishment that is
committed to excellence and achievement,” stated Mr
Arnott.
He commented: “We have created a unique and vibrant
logo which reflects the passionate approach by staff, students,
parents and the people of Peterborough to the UK’s largest
City Academy.”
Adrenaline’s creative director Matthew Rigby-Burr led
the design team on the project and used the school’s
specialisms in science and maths as inspiration. Explaining
the thinking behind the creative work he said: “The
six elements represent the six different colleges within the
Thomas Deacon Academy which, although they are independent,
link together to form one unique being.”
